A Day at the Races

Saturday 20th of February I went to the NHRA at Firebird International Raceway. The weather started off dreary and rainy leaving many of us wondering if it was ever going to clear up for a race or if we were going to be stuck wandering around. During the rainy day schedule of the race I wandered over to see my sister station tents KUPD and KDKB as well as vendor tents and racers tents. I was over in the Bill Johnsons and Napa tent when I ran into my favorite funny car racer Ron Capps. I am usually never shy but I found myself shy at this moment and not wanting to go say hello, luckily for me Mr. Capps said hello to me and and I was able to take a picture with him. I felt like a kid in a candy store and was all red as well. Later in the day I was invited over to Rons trailer and was able to chat a quick bit and muster up enough to ask for an autograph. What a class act he was.
I also wandered over to John Force's tent and other racers to look at the hot rods and funny cars. I found myself at one point chocking and with very watery eyes from the nitro. Wow I dont know how the pit crew does it without a mask.
Finally the rainy day cleared and the races began. Whooooooooo hooooooooo. I was stoked and ready for the ears to tickle and the feet to feel the earth move below them. What a show and of course a few delays due to a small fire and some oil being dumped on the track. I saw Ron Capps and was all in a cheery mood when he placed. I also was thrilled to see the hot rods. It amazes me about the tires and how they change as they fly down the track. I also find the bow of the car chassis interesting as well too. Im surprised that still after modifications they still dont crack at times in half.
All in all it was a great day =)

Scottsdale Fire Department

On Sunday 27 December I was invited along with the Scottsdale Fire Department to hang out for a day. In a period of 10 hours I did not see as much as I thought I would have. This was definitely not like tv. The day started out with one of the firemen training to become an engineer. We were at an empty parking lot and the firemen were running drills. Went to the gym, lunch and back to the fire house where we played the waiting game. I went on a total of six calls.

1. girl in her 20's overdosed on pain meds (possibly more). did not take her in.
2. woman in her late 50's had defecated. took her to hospital.
3. man in late 20's with chest pain. took him to hospital.
4. elderly woman in assisted living center passed away.
5. young girl choking. the girl is ok.
6. microwave fire. no one injured. they set up fan and blew smoke out of home.

The fire house where i was at had two trucks. Each truck had four firemen. I was able to ride on each truck during a call. I had never seen anyone get dressed so fast while riding down the road, bumping up and down etc. The paramedics work very closely with the firemen as well. I met four different medics, only two came over to hang out at the house with us. I also now have a whole new respect for these men and women who chose this career. After this I will also pull over right away when i hear sirens instead of waiting. Yes it is also true what they say about firemen being great cooks. These guys made excellent pot pies from left overs in the fridge.

In the Studio

Last night i went to the studio to visit my good friend Jonathan L. He provides a local radio show that actually spans the globe now thanks to the internet. The show is called The Lopsided World of L. Its a musical variety show of types. He presents music from all genres.

We had a lot of fun in the studio. Russell, Jonathan's son was also in the studio. We laughed and chatted and i learned quite a bit. I have been in the studio before with Jonathan and spoke on air with him as well in the past. No matter how many times you go, there is still so much to learn from him.

Please check out Jonathan's blog

Pumpkin Everything =)

I am sitting here at work in the studio realising how much I would really love a pumpkin shake from jack in the box. I really have an addiction to pumpkin. I love pumpkin bread, rolls, cookies, coffee, ice cream, shakes and pie. Then it gets even better, I love pumkin scented lotions too. I know im silly but its sooooo yummy. My grams makes the best ever pumpkin bread.
